As a child with an older sibling grows, it’s often a knee-jerk instinct to give him his own room. This, however, may not always be the correct choice. The move from a crib to a solo room may be a bit tough, especially for younger children. Why not use your older kids as a resource to help ease the change?
Buying a bunk bed with trundle, and bunking your kids together, may be one of the best ways to use your bedrooms. Not only does it conserve space, it saves money, excites the children, and helps children cope with change. Bunk beds just by their nature make a room more attractive to kids. Asking the children how they want the room to look should also help you make the bedroom much more agreeable to them. Their ideas may be unorthodox, but they’ll enjoy the room and respect you all the more for it. Of course, if their ideas turn out to be impossible you’ll just have to go back to the drawing board, but showing that you tried is a very important thing.
Adding an overall theme to the décor of the room can make designing the area much easier and helps coordinate the whole process. A pirate theme, for example, is very popular amongst younger children. This has been helped by the recent release of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series. And if you manage get a slide, artificial trees, a jungle hideaway, or a rock wall your child’s room will quickly rocket to stardom. You can then add accessories to complete the effect.
Or, you can go with a log cabin or camping theme. This is good because as your child ages and outgrows the theme, the naturally earthy tones lend well to an easy redesign. If he does want this theme, you can drape a canopy of blankets over the bottom bunk to act as a “tent” and spread out insect accessories around the room.
When you choose a bunk bed with slide, it’s easy to design the room. Just follow your child’s lead!
